Hobart’s lineup of HS Series slicers for use in grocery delis includes the HS9 automatic slicer and the HS Series portion scale slicers.

The portion scale slicers come in two models. The HS6-1PS is a manual slicer and the HS7-1PS is automatic.

Both have an integrated scale that makes it easy to slice product to a specific weight instantly, a big gain for efficiency, said Carolyn Bilger, marketing director.

The durability, consistency and quality of Hobart slicers, Bilger added, are features that help the company’s product roster apart.

“The HS Series portion scale slicers make it easier for operators in the deli to improve their productivity and simplify weighing. They take the guesswork out of weighing meats and cheeses, and eliminate the need to walk to a separate scale.”

Hobart’s slicers for deli also help eliminate waste. They can weigh up to 10 pounds of product in increments of 0.01 pounds or 0.1 ounces.

In addition, the SmartSlice function on the HS7-1PS model makes slicing product for grab-and-go bags easy.

“It automatically slices until it reaches the weight selected by the operator,” Bilger said. “Adding to that is the Stack function, which pauses as a set weight of product and allows the operator to place parchment between the product. It will weigh the same amount of product again once the operator presses start.”

The demand for slicers is still strong in retail delis, Bilger said, as customers increasingly continue to look for fresh food options instead of packaged products.

Having grab-and-go options for meats and cheeses is not only convenient for customers. It’s also a good alternative over pre-sliced product for those customers who want to know where their product has been processed.

“Seeing meats and cheeses sliced right in front of them gives customers a sense of consistency and quality,” Bilger said. “They know where their meats and cheeses have been processed and can see that is being done properly.”

And the interaction with deli employees can also be crucial. Many shoppers rely on them to provide recommendations or answer questions prior to making a selection. And they can rely on them to slice their meats exactly as thick or thin as they like.
