Retailers should expect more from their rotisserie chicken packaging than simply transporting product, said Kurt Richars, direct of market development for Anchor Packaging.

A few other things to consider:

  • Does it support efficient operations?
  • Does it protect food quality?
  • Does it extend shelf life?
  • Does it create easy and appealing display?

The right packaging, Richars said, provides an answer to many of these questions.

Retailers will need less labor to produce and display items, food will look better for longer on shelf and satisfied customers will return to buy more.

“A two-piece roaster container increases visual appeal and presents a larger bird which converts more customers. Two-piece designs enable easy loading, which supports staff and efficient operations reducing operational costs.”

Table-ready serving and easy unloading result in convenient, pleasant meal experiences which lead to repeat sales, he added. And tight closures that prevent greasy spills and reduce slip-fall risks both in front and behind the deli counter and increasing customer satisfaction. And PP containers remain recyclable after use.

“Packaging decisions can impact costs in ways that are aren’t always easy to see,” Richars said.
