Almost half of shoppers lean on grocery technologies to enhance their shopping experiences. And while 92% of boomers shop in physical grocery stores, just 75% of millennials do.

Those were among the findings discussed in a Sept. 11 Supermarket Tech Trends and the Consumer webinar hosted by Supermarket Perimeter, based on a study by Cypress Research and sponsored by Instacart.

Supermarket consumers are ready to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) and other innovative, cutting-edge technologies coming to their grocery stores, according to the study and webinar, which featured three speakers:

  • Marjorie Hellmer, president, Cypress Research;
  • Rob Hill, general manager, Order Ahead, Instacart; and
  • Andy Nelson, managing editor, Supermarket Perimeter

Other findings of the study discussed in the webinar include:

  • The majority of shoppers pick up at the store after website/app/personal shopper purchase.
  • 38% get delivery from retailer; 29% from an independent online grocery shopping company.
  • 34% have used fresh perimeter grocery ordering through independent online grocery shopping companies.
