WASHINGTON—The US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) provided a new update to the initial recall regarding Durant, Okla.-based BrucePac. The company is recalling more ready-to-eat (RTE) meat and poultry products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes.

New details on the release show an additional 1,779,040 lbs of product will be subject to recall, bringing the total to 11,765,85 lbs recalled from this establishment.

The new release was updated to reflect that previously recalled products were distributed to schools. FSIS said a school distribution list was not available at this time. When available, that list will be on the FSIS recalls website.

A list of affected RTE items, which were produced from June 19, 2024, to Oct. 8, is available here. On Oct. 11, the company added 15 poultry products to the list, bringing the total number of recalled items to 90. Labels from the added 15 items can be found here.

Retailers such as Walmart Inc., Target Corp., Kroger Co., Raley’s, and Trader Joe’s source private-label prepared meals from BrucePac that are included in the recall. Other brands impacted by the recall include Atkins, Boston Market, Jenny Craig, Michelina’s, Red’s, Taylor Farms, Udi’s and many others.

Reser’s Fine Foods, Beaverton, Ore., initiated a recall of several meal kits that may contain the recalled meat. Similarly, Albertsons Companies, Boise, Idaho, initiated a similar recall of meal kits and store-made deli items, according to the company, as well as some products sold under the retailer’s Signature Select private brand.

FSIS discovered the problem after performing routine product testing of finished products containing RTE poultry produced by BrucePac and confirmed those products were positive for Listeria. A subsequent FSIS investigation identified BrucePac RTE chicken as the source of the Listeria contamination.

There still have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
