Publix announced on Monday that it had selected Mount Pleasant, South Carolina as the location for its second revamped GreenWise Market concept. GreenWise — which was rolled out a decade ago before being put on hold — focuses on the specialty, natural and organic sector.
The 25,000-square-foot store will be in the Indigo Square shopping center on US Highway 17 in Mount Pleasant, which lies immediately to the east of Charleston.
""We’re excited to bring GreenWise Market to the Mount Pleasant community,” says Kevin Murphy, Publix Senior Vice President of Retail Operations. “We’re creating an environment where fresh, specialty, natural and organic food is celebrated. We’ll have something for everyone, from the indulgent foodie ready to discover something new to the health-conscious shopper seeking fresh, high-quality ingredients.”
GreenWise Markets are expected to have a prepared foods section with chef-inspired menus, cooking demonstrations, a coffee and smoothie cafe and more.
The first redesigned GreenWise Market location is currently under construction near Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. Publix says it is looking for additional GreenWise locations throughout its operating areas.
Three other GreenWise locations reside in Florida — Boca Raton, Tampa and Palm Beach Gardens. Those locations opened beginning in 2007 before Publix put a hold on the concept's growth.
