Midwestern retailer Meijer plans to open six smaller-format stores by 2021.
Three of the proposed stores, all of which are slated for urban markets, are already in development, according to story on mlive.com.
The first store, announced in June 2017, is a 37,000-square-foot store in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Meijer’s hometown, that will open under the Bridge Street Market banner. Other stores will have names that reflect the neighborhoods where they’re built, according to the story.
A groundbreaking event for the second store, east of downtown Detroit, is set for this summer, according to the story. That store will open in 2019. Construction also it set to begin on a third store this year.
The first two stores will be located in mixed-used developments, according to the story. Other stores could be build in traditional shopping centers or as standalones.
