MONTREAL — Saputo’s goat cheese brand Montchevre took home awards for two new-to-market products at this year’s World Championship Cheese Contest.
Blueberry Lemon fresh goat cheese earned Silver in the “Soft Goat’s Milk Cheeses, Flavored With Sweet Condiments” category, scoring 99.5 points out of 100. And Cranberry Port Topped goat cheese was awarded Bronze in the “Soft Goat’s Milk Cheeses, Flavored” category, scoring 98.25 points out of 100.
“Blueberry Lemon flavor puts a tangy twist on the already top-selling Montchevre Blueberry Vanilla goat cheese log fans have enjoyed for years,” according to Saputo. “Hand-rolled in blueberries and infused with lemon zest, this fresh goat cheese is perfect for snacking and a great ingredient for baking, too.”
“Cranberry Port Topped is topped with a combination of sweet, port-spiked cranberries, orange, ginger and lemon. The tartness of the cranberry and tanginess of the goat cheese pairs well with a dry rosé or light, citrusy white wine.”
Hosted by the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association, the World Championship Cheese Contest is the world’s premier technical cheese, butter and yogurt competition. This year’s competition received 2,978 entries from 29 nations. Out of all the nations represented, cheeses originating from the United States were most widely recognized, leading the pack with an impressive 94 Best-In-Class finishes.
