ORLANDO — At the International Fresh Produce Association’s inaugural convention Oct. 27-29, Bakersfield, Calif.-based Bako Sweet introduced its first-ever fully recyclable sweet potato bag.
The No. 2 recyclable bag can be recycled with other plastic bags at grocery stores and other common sites for bag recycling.
Also new at Bako Sweet, the company is now labeling its 3- and 5-pound bags with the color of the variety’s skin and flesh rather than the name of the variety, which most consumers don’t know, said Alexandra Rae Molumby, marketing director. Bako Sweet ships four different types of sweet potatoes.
Bako Sweet’s sweet potatoes are triple-washed and consistently sized and their packs feature QR codes with links to recipes and other information.
