DALLAS — March is National Nutrition Month, and on March 21, Healthy Fats Day, Avocados From Mexico educated consumers on the health benefits of avocados.
According to Avocados From Mexico, avocados are the only fresh fruit packed with a combination of healthy fats and other necessary nutrients. There are 6 grams of healthy fats in a serving (one-third of a medium avocado).
The company shared an avocado recipe called the Harvest Bowl Salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette, created by registered dietitian Barbara Ruhs and certified by the American Heart Association.
Avocados From Mexico also conducted a survey of 1,001 participants March 1-10.
The survey found that 76% of people believe fat is an essential component of a healthy diet, but only one-third believe saturated and trans fats are associated with health benefits.
Less than one-third could not confidently answer why it was important to have healthy fats.
“Many Americans need to balance their overall fat intake by reducing their ‘bad’ or saturated fat intake and increasing their ‘good’ or unsaturated fats (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats) intake,” the company said. “Replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats can help reduce LDL or bad cholesterol levels.”
More information on the benefits of avocados and healthy fats can be found on the Avocados From Mexico website.
