Nelson-Jameson rolls out reusable shipping containers

03.10.2025

MARSHFIELD, WIS. — Dairy, beverage and food processing plant supplier Nelson-Jameson introduced new reusable shipping containers for delivering dsm-firmenich cultures for dairy products.

Nelson-Jameson shared that it partnered with Bonar Plastics for the shipping containers, which minimize waste and increase efficiency by using less cardboard, styrene and dry ice.

With the cultures serving as biological catalysts in dairy production, Nelson-Jameson said the new shipping method also makes it possible for customers to “more effectively receive the culture orders with the added benefit of mitigating environmental impact by reducing single-use packaging.”

The supplier said the special storage containers were made with a compound melt blend of plastic that was developed to withstand cold impact and thereby enhance durability and reusability. Nelson-Jameson noted the containers have optimal storage for dry ice blocks and are equipped with lockable lids.

Shawn Kitchner, vice president of operations and logistics at Nelson-Jameson, said the company was proud to collaborate with Bonar Plastics on the shipping solution.

“These durable containers make for a better delivery mechanism for customers, as well as creating a more sustainable process,” Kitchner said.

Part of the shipping process, Nelson-Jameson added, includes collecting, cleaning and reusing the bunkers containing the frozen starter cultures after they are unpacked.

“With these shipping containers, fewer boxes and styrene inserts will end up in landfills and the content will remain safe and secure along the entire chain of custody,” Kitchner said. “Nelson-Jameson has maintained a commitment to corporate responsibility and food safety, and these reusable containers are another piece of that ongoing dedication to sustainable solutions when bringing products to our customers.”
